
A long-running water and power project in Mendocino County could be headed for a major overhaul. PG&E is planning to tear down two dams and shut down the Potter Valley Project after more than a century. Now, the Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District is eyeing parts of the system, possibly to move water or even use it for energy storage. That’s raising questions locally, since there’s already a plan to return water rights to the Round Valley Indian Tribes once the dams come out . For now, it’s a wait-and-see situation as leaders try to figure out what this outside interest really means.
