One of Mendocino County’s State parks is expanding after a donation from the Save the Redwoods League. The league says it has transferred 453 acres known as the Atkins Place Property that will become part of the Montgomery Woods State Natural Reserve. The League bought the land in 2022 for 1.18 million dollars. The new forest area is significant because it used to be home to the tallest known tree in the world. California State Parks director Armando Quintero calls Montgomery Woods one of the jewels of the park system, and says that the addition will lead to future trails and more public access.
