A new report suggests hundreds of business registrations filed in California last year may have been fraudulent. CBS News reports more than 800 suspected cases among the more than 3 million businesses registered with the Secretary of State in 2025. Investigators say many of the fraudulent filings are linked to identity theft schemes. In some cases, business addresses listed in the filings turned out to be private homes.
