Fishing lines are going in the water today as the Clearlake Oaks Catfish Derby officially kicks off this weekend. The popular three-day event starts at noon today in Clearlake Oaks and includes fishing contests, food, music, and community events running through Sunday afternoon. Organizers say the derby is one of the biggest catfish tournaments west of the Mississippi, with proceeds going back into local programs for kids and seniors. This year’s event is also honoring longtime volunteer Jim Jonas, who helped run the derby for many years behind the scenes.
