There’s a push in California to make sure people don’t lose out on money when their cars get auctioned off. State Sen. Kelly Seyarto is backing a bill after reports showed the California Department of Motor Vehicles held onto millions in surplus funds without telling owners. The proposal would force the DMV to notify people within two weeks if they’re owed money and how to get it. Lawmakers say it’s about fixing a system most people didn’t even know existed. The bill is now heading to another hearing as it moves through the process.
