There’s a new warning out if you’re planning to collect shellfish along the Northern California coast. The California Department of Public Health says don’t eat sport-harvested mussels, clams, oysters, or scallops from Sonoma, Marin, or San Mateo counties because of dangerous toxin levels. Those toxins can cause serious illness and cooking won’t make them safe. Store-bought shellfish is still fine, but officials say always check advisories before heading out to harvest.
