If you’ve ever wanted to learn how controlled burns work, there’s a chance to get involved this weekend. The Mendocino County Prescribed Burn Association is teaming up with Humboldt for a training event at Tan Oak Park in Leggett. You’ll get a crash course in fire behavior, gear and safety, and there’s even a planned burn where you can put those skills to use. Camping is available the night before if you want to make a weekend out of it. Organizers say plans could change depending on weather, so it’s a good idea to check in ahead of time.
