Mendocino County is getting a big boost in water storage, with hundreds of free tanks headed to local communities. Officials say about 450 tanks are being handed out through a state program, aimed at helping people better handle drought and wildfire emergencies. Each tank can hold thousands of gallons of water, giving residents a backup supply when it’s needed most. It’s a direct response to past droughts, when some communities struggled just to get enough water. The program won’t last forever though, with distribution expected to wrap up later this year.
