A backyard discovery in Northern California could have ended much worse. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office says an 8-year-old boy dug up what turned out to be a live military mortar. The decades-old explosive had the potential to seriously injure anyone nearby, but was safely removed with help from the Air Force. No one was hurt, but officials say this is a good reminder not to touch anything that looks suspicious. If you ever find something like that, call 911 right away.
