A new state law could help you protect your home from wildfires. The Safe Homes Grant program will provide grants for new roofs and fire-resistant zones for homeowners in areas with a high risk of wildfires. The State Insurance Department will run the program, and they’re still working out the details, but they plan to have a new online portal to apply by March. The state says the goal of the program is to help people in low to moderate-income areas and meet other qualifications make sure their property is fire-resistant. State money will pay for the initiative, and officials hope to find federal assistance, too.
