A nonprofit that’s helped families and young people along the south Mendocino Coast for nearly a quarter-century is preparing to close its doors. Point Arena’s Action Network says it will shut down in June after losing major funding connected to California’s revamped Behavioral Health Services Act. The organization provided behavioral health programs, youth mentoring, substance-use prevention, and family resource services across rural communities from the coast inland. Leaders say the loss of funding came despite serving hundreds of people each year, including Native youth from local rancherias. When the nonprofit closes next month, 12 employees will also lose their jobs.
