Authorities in Mendocino County say scammers posing as Microsoft, federal agents and bank workers nearly stole $100,000 from elderly victims in the Willits area. Investigators say the victims were tricked into believing their computers were compromised and that they were under federal investigation. Deputies managed to recover a $73,000 cashier’s check before it was cashed, but say another $23,000 in cash was already handed over to a suspect.
