California is using Earth Day to show just how much waste it’s cutting and how much more it plans to do. CalRecycle says the state has already helped recover more than a billion meals, recycled billions of containers, and safely handled massive amounts of e-waste. The push toward reusing and recycling more is also cutting pollution, with effects comparable to pulling millions of cars off the road. Looking ahead, officials say new laws will tighten the system even more, aiming to make all single-use packaging recyclable or compostable within the next decade.
