A Covelo man is behind bars following a violent early-morning confrontation that initially came in as a report of a kidnapping. Just before 3:00 a.m. Monday, Mendocino County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 76000 block of Henderson Lane in Coveo.l The initial 911 call suggested a woman had been forcibly taken from the area, but investigators soon discovered a different story. While the kidnapping report turned out to be unfounded, deputies identified a male victim at the scene. He told authorities that Raymond Bowes forced his way into the residence, physically assaulted him, and made off with his property. The woman originally thought to be kidnapped was later located uninjured at a home on Biggar Lane. Deputies found Bowes at that same location. Officials say Bowes’ statements didn’t line up with physical evidence at the scene, which showed injuries consistent with him being the “primary aggressor.”At the time of the incident, Bowes was already out on bail for an unrelated felony. He was booked into the Mendocino County Jail on suspicion of robbery and burglary, with bail set at $125,000.
