Mendocino County has managed to secure nearly half of a statewide allocation of free water tanks, bringing much-needed storage to rural residents. Through a California Department of Water Resources program, roughly 1,000 tanks were available for the entire state. The Mendocino County Fire Safe Council says they relied on over 80 neighborhood groups to find the homes that needed them most. The goal is storage for domestic use, not irrigation or landscaping. The tanks are free, though owners must handle pickup and installation. Officials say this is a huge step for fire safety and water security. If you’re looking to get on a waiting list or want to see if your neighborhood qualifies for future grants, you can contact the Mendocino County Fire Safe Council or visit their website.
