Clearlake leaders are taking a much harder stance against the county sanitation district after January’s massive sewer spill. Last week, the City Council approved a plan to file complaints with environmental regulators, conduct independent water testing, review the sewer system separately, and begin efforts to take local control away from the county-run district. City officials say the spill dumped raw sewage into the Robin Lane area for nearly 38 hours, contaminating wells and raising major concerns about how the system is being managed. Council members also questioned the accuracy of spill reports and accused the sanitation district of poor transparency and accountability.
