Outdoor recreation in Lake County is getting a multi-million dollar boost. California State Parks has officially recommended a $1.4 million federal grant to fund the development of the planned Cobb Community Park. The funding is part of a larger $42.6 million package from the Land and Water Conservation Fund, aimed at expanding outdoor access across the state. The nearly 13-acre site is slated to become a flagship recreational hub for the Cobb area. According to county officials, the project will feature a nature-themed play area with faux rock climbers, a wood climbing tower, and an “accessible oak circle” path, plus shaded picnic areas, BBQ pits, and a dedicated outdoor gathering space with a pedestrian creek overlook. Also on the works– A new restroom facility, security lighting, and two parking lots equipped with modern bioretention features for environmental sustainability. While the state has cleared the project through its environmental review, the federal nature of the grant means more red tape. Lake County Public Works Director Lars Ewing noted that the project must now pass a federal environmental audit, including the National Environmental Policy Act. If everything stays on track, residents can expect to see Construction Start: 2027 and Grand Opening: Expected between 2028 and 2029. The project was selected from a record-breaking pool of 128 applicants, highlighting the growing demand for green spaces in underserved California communities.
