Several new laws begin on January 1st

The new year brings several new laws to California. Among them–rideshared drivers for Uber and Lyft can organize unions for the first time. The law covers 800,000 drivers. Also, on January 1st, landlords must provide and maintain Refrigerators and stoves in all new or renewed leases, and local governments will have to approve residential permits more quickly or face fines. The California State Assembly is scheduled to reconvene January 5th for the second year of the 2025–2026 regular session.
