Firefighters say they’re seeing more fires started by overheating rechargeable lithium-ion batteries–a number that goes up around the holidays as people get new devices, use incompatible chargers, or even buy cheap knock-off or counterfeit electronics that are unsafe right out of the box. The advice–follow the manufacturer’s guidelines, avoid old or damaged batteries, and store batteries safely, not in an enclosed space. Another note about batteries–if you are flying anywhere for the holidays, be sure to check the latest guidelines from both your airlines and the TSA about what you can–and can’t bring on board or any other restrictions
