California Driver’s licenses and state IDs are getting a makeover. The new licenses that made their debut this week have an updated design and advanced security features. The one you have in your wallet now is still good until next time you renew, when you’ll get the new design. Among the features on the new license–an image of the redwoods, poppies, and the coastline, and an embedded digital security signature on two barcodes on the back. They don’t have a magnetic strip on the back–the barcodes now have all the necessary information. California is one of the first states to use that newer security technology.
The state is out with payroll information for the University of California Institutions and Community Colleges. It shows there are almost 458,000 positions with about 31.5 billion dollars in wages. State Comptroller Malia Cohen says the payroll data shows how public money is being spent on higher education and that transparency is important to maintain trust in government spending. The information is available on the website of the Government Compensation in California. The site contains compensation and benefits info for more than two million government jobs in the state, which can be sorted by region and by job title.
