One fire in the area is contained, while another continues to burn. Cal Fire says crews are wrapping up work at the Sky Fire near Clearlake. 18. Acres were burned in the fire near Morgan Valley Road. The Picket fire that has been burning for almost a week now near Calistoga is 25 percent contained over 6,800 acres. Cal Fire says the focus is on maintaining lines. There are fresh questions about how the fire started. A report in the Press Democrat says dispatch records suggest an escaped controlled burn in the area last Thursday afternoon may have been to blame. Cal Fire says its investigation continues.

With the Labor Day weekend almost here, more people will be outside, Cal Fire is urging everyone to keep fire safety in mind–and to follow the burning restrictions in place.. Forecasters say humidity is dropping and winds are expected to pick up, which could increase the fire risk, especially in Lake County, where critical conditions could develop in isolated locations as we head toward the long weekend.

The commission will first take up an application for a permit for a new venue offering farm-to-table dining and wine tastings. The location–called Harmony–is planned for Big Valley Road in Kelseyville. Then, the commission will consider another permit application from the operators of a planned CCAB service operation on Jerusalem Grade in Middletown. The MIT farms want to cultivate over 42,000 square feet at the location. Finally, the commission will hear an appeal of a decision about a temporary dwelling permit on New Long Valley Road in Clearlake Oaks.. Planning staff have rejected the request. The meeting starts at 9 AM tomorrow at the county courthouse in Lakeport.
