There are safe professional alternatives. There will be displays in Fort Bragg at Todd Point, Point Arena at Arena Cove,e and Ukiah Speedway. All shows are at dusk on July 5th.
The city of Lakeport wants boaters to remember boat ramp safety as they put in this summer. They say boat ramps are slippery and that unless you’re careful, your towing vehicle could end up in the drink, or you could have a nasty slip and fall. The advice: check the ramp first back down slowly in low gear and have a spotter guide you as you launch. Once you’re afloat this weekend, the marine patrol says they’ll be out, making sure everyone stays safe., That includes strict enforcement of rules about leaving a wake, wearing life jackets, and boating sober. Officers say anyone caught boating under the influence faces the same tough punishment that they’d face on land for D U I,
The Ukiah City Council is taking up a plan to provide new housing for senior citizens. The Northern Circle Indian Housing Corporation wants to build what it calls the Ukiah Elders Village on a 2.5-acre site on Coopers Lane. The corporation bought that land last fall. The project would include 15 two-bedroom single-family units, with priority given to five federally recognized tribes in Mendocino County. The village would also include a wellness and community center, green space for a kids’ playground, dog park, and family gatherings, plus a walking trail looping the site. If the Council says yes at its meeting on Wednesday, work could start in the spring. The meeting is at 5:30 at the Civic Center.
