CHP is investigating a fatal crash near Cloverdale. The victim was the driver and only person in the S U V that went off County Road and hit a tree on Sunday night. Officers say they aren’t yet sure what happened,
during an encounter with police who were looking for after 9-1-1 hang-up died of a drug overdose. Deputies had been called to Brush Street in Ukiah on February 26th after they traced the call made by Emil Radzic. As they tried to question him, they say Radzic ran off, but was found later acting strange near the Orr Creek Bridge. Deputies reported Radzic passed out as they arrested him–he later died despite efforts to revive him. Now, the autopsy report is out and it says Radzic died from a lethal combination of Meth and GHB
The Ukiah City Council is taking up demolition of a one-time warehouse and furniture store on East Perkins Street. The building went up in 1947 as a warehouse for the long-ago Montgomery Ward department store. It later housed Pioneer Company and eventually Curry’s Furniture. The city says the demolition meets the requirements of the city code because even though it is almost 80 years old, there’s nothing particularly unusual about it, and because it’s what the city calls–dead building stock that’s no longer worth fixing up. Officials say there are no plans yet for the land once the building is torn down..The council is expected to OK demolition at its regular meeting Wednesday evening at 5:15 at City Hall
Leaders from around the region are planning an economic development summit in Lakeport. The group of policymakers, entrepreneurs, and other leaders from Lake, Mendocino, Humboldt, Trinity, and Del Norte counties and surrounding tribal lands will focus on rural growth and collaboration when they get together in early November at the Soper Reese Theater in Lakeport. Organizers say they picked Lakeport because it’s what they call a growing hub for regional innovation, with community support for infrastructure, small businesses, and culture.
