The state Education Department says Lake County School enrollment was up for the school year about to end. Unlike much of the rest of the state, Lake County enrollment was up by about two-tenths of a percent, with the state enrollment down by a fraction. For Lake County, it was the second year in a row of school growth. Since 2015-16, Lake County’s school population has gone up by 11 percent, while state numbers have gone down by almost 7 percent.

Lake and Mendocino Counties are getting millions of dollars from CalTrans for major emergency road repairs. Statewide, the latest allocation is 1.7 billion dollars and with some it going to several local projects . In Lake County it means approximately $4 million in was approved for emergency allocations toward roadway, retaining wall and guardrail repairs and erosion control on Route 20 east of Walker Ridge Road near Clearlake Oaks following winter storms in December 2024. Among other projects – in Mendocino County, $1.9 million of emergency allocations will go toward the construction of a retaining wall, road, and guardrail repair, and rock slope protection on Route 271 north of the U.S. 101 Cummings Road Separation near Cummings following heavy rainfall in February 2025. That money is all part of the state’s annual budget allocation of 5 billion dollars that is split between state and local agencies. Governor Newsom says the new round of funding will mean a quick start to some of the state’s most important roadway projects.
