The Lake County Sheriff’s office has released the name of a Clearlake Oaks woman killed in a Christmas Eve crash. Francis Novak died when she made a U-turn in front of a tractor-trailer on State Route 20 near Clear Lake Oaks. The truck driver was not injured. the investigation continues
Everyone will remember Baby Duwehni’s birthday when he gets older, and his parents will have a great story to tell. He was the first baby born in Mendocino County on New Year’s Day, 1 hour and 34 minutes into the New Year. He checked in at 7 lb 8 oz and he’s already 19 in tall. He is the third child of Xelin Fred-Mata and Dad Chun Carrillo. The birth didn’t happen quite the way they planned but everything turned out just fine after an emergency C-section. Baby Duwehni’s d u w e h n I’s name means “a long time ago” In honor of his native heritage. He was born at the Adventist Health Family Birth Center
The hot summer and fall have given way to a snowy winter in the mountains. The California Department of Water Resources has conducted the first snow survey of the season recording 24 inches, which is 91% of the average for the location at Phillips station. DWR director Carla Nemeth says things look good now, but it’s a long way until April when the supply picture will be more complete. Statewide the average snowpack is at 108% while Major reservoirs are at 121% of average because of two years in a row of above-average snowpack.
