The Lake County Board of Supervisors has approved a new Lake County Hospital Improvement District. The district will help fund the renovation and expansion of the county’s two acute care hospitals, Adventist Health Clear Lake and Sutter Lakeside. It’s the state’s first such hospital district. A special tax on property owners within its boundaries will fund it.. The district board of directors–appointed by the board of supervisors–will set the tax rate The county expects to generate about $10 million per year, which will be used for a new emergency department, more beds, and new medical equipment among other things.
President Biden has signed a bill giving tax relief to wildfire victims. Congressman Mike Thompon says waiving taxes on settlement money will help thousands of people locally and access the country. He says bipartisan support for the bill pushed it over the line.
California’s second-biggest insurance provider plans to offer more types of policies again. Farmers Insurance says starting tomorrow, you can apply for new policies for condos, renters, landlords, and more. They stopped writing some of these policies last year because of the risk of wildfires. The move could help people who can’t find insurance after other companies withdrew from the California market.
