The Lake County Registrar of Voters continues to count the ballots from Tuesday’s election. The office says there are 19,021 ballots still to count. That number could go up, because there are still more outstanding mail in ballots that have until Tuesday to arrive in the mail. The preliminary results out early Wednesday are unofficial until the canvass is done and the numbers reported to the state. The deadline for that is December 13th. Based on what is in so far, turnout on Tuesday was around 71 Percent.
Monday is Veterans day–a federal state and local holiday. Banks are closed and there’s no mail. A number of local ceremonies are planned to honor those who have served. Most local businesses are open and several have special offerings for veterans. There are also specials from a number of national chains. The American Legion’s website–legion.org–has a list. November 11th marks the date of the armistice that ended World War One in 1918. It’s a good time to say “thank you” to the men and women who have pledged to uphold our constitution and protect ALL Americans–regardless of our personal differences or our politics.
