PG&E is warning of likely public safety power shutoffs tomorrow and Wednesday. That is because of the forecast for dry and windy weather. Mendocino County lifted its burn ban last week. However, it is still in effect in Lake County. Cal Fire says while the fire season is winding down, there are still significant risks. The PG&E outage page has the latest information.

A full agenda for the Lake County Board of Supervisors this week. Hospitals will be one topic, with a public hearing on a proposed new Lake County Hospital Improvement District. Lake County News reports the district would do a business-based assessment of the county’s two hospitals — Sutter Lakeside Hospital and Adventist Health Clear Lake. The hospitals have asked the board to consider the idea. Its initial term would be 5 years with ten-year renewals after that. The money would come from a 1 percent assessment to cover administrative costs. Also up for discussion–Caltrans plans to improve a stretch of Highway 29 in The Konocti Corridor. It would continue the work finished last year near Kits Corner. The meeting starts at 9:00 am, the public hearing is at 11:00

More discussion later in a virtual meeting later this month, on a plan to build a new housing project for people who have been released from prison. The Lake County Probation Department and Rural Communities Housing Development Corp. want to move forward on a 24 million dollar project approved last year by the board of supervisors in August They held the first meeting on the plan last month. Lake County News reports the discussion on November 14th will include where it would be built and what it would offer. The Zoom meeting 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The information is available on the County Probation Department’s Facebook page.

An amnesty program waiving penalties for building permits filed after work has started or is done in Mendocino County has been expended. The deadline was November 1st but is now in effect through the end of the year. All complete amnesty building permit applications must be submitted on or before Dec. 31, to be eligible for this program. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. There are some exceptions–the permits must not be part of any enforcement case, under review, or include a zoning violation. Mendocino County Department of Planning and Building Services has the details about the amnesty program.

The US Army Corps of Engineers is giving away firewood. They’ll be offering downed wood, stacked and ready for the fireplace or stove on November 13th and December 4th between 10 am and 2 pm at the Bushay Campground in the Mesa Day Use Area at the north end of the lake. There is no chainsawing or cutting allowed and it is limited to one truck or trailer load per person. The corps suggests getting there early because it’s first come first served until the wood is gone.
