The Boyles Fire in Clearlake is now about 40% contained with 81 acres burned and 30 structures destroyed. Cal Fire says more than 2300 people remain evacuated from areas south of 24th Avenue to Dam Road. The City of Clearlake reminds all evacuees to check in at the evacuation shelter at Twin Pine Casino in Middletown. They say even if you do not plan to stay there it is critical to check in so they can coordinate essential services. If you need a place to stay but are worried about your pets, they have resources for you to bring your pets with you to Twin Pine. And the city can arrange transportation if you need it. Some schools in Clearlake remain closed today due to the Boyles Fire. The Konocti Unified School District says Obsidian Middle School, Blue Heron School and Lewis School remain closed today because officials need to check for damage as well as do a deep cleaning. However school is back in session today for Lower Lake High School, Lower Lake Elementary School, Carle High School and Highlands Academy. As for Woodland Community College, the campus is closed again today but all classes and services are happening online.

CalFresh replacement benefits are for those who already get CalFresh and lost food due to the power outages. But expedited CalFresh applications are available to qualified low income households who do not already have benefits.

A car crash has led to a long list of drug charges for two people from Mendocino County. Healdsburg Police say around 1am Sunday they responded to a crash in which a car slammed into a curb and both the driver and passenger were passed out. Police called for EMT’s but they allege after talking to the driver they suspected he was under the influence and a search of the car turned up nearly 79 grams of meth and 7 lbs of pot. The driver Ryan Downey of Covelo is charged with DUI and both he and passenger Courtney Hamilton of Ukiah are charged with felony possession of narcotics for sale.

For the first time in more than 25 years, the Chief Justice of California is paying a visit to the Ukiah Courthouse. The Mendocino County Superior Court says California Chief Justice Patricia Guerrero and Senate President pro Tempore Mike McGuire will be at the courthouse Thursday. Mendo Fever reports officials are looking forward to demonstrating the expansion of public access to the court by using remote technology but also talking over the challenges that trial courts face in rural counties.

Grab your gloves and trash bags for the 40th annual California Coastal Cleanup Day which is set for Saturday September 21. There are more than 1,000 sites that will be targeted for cleanup around the state for the day organized by the California Coastal Commission and worldwide by the Ocean Conservancy. Lake County News reports there are several cleanup spots in the county including Redbud Park, Library Park, Lucerne Harbor Park,and Rodman Slough County Park.
