A ruling by a judge regarding the violation of labor laws and worker’s rights has left the Yuba Community College district in trouble. That ruling leads to an appeal by the district. There will also be a rally next week ahead of the district board meeting by the Faculty Association next Thursday outside the Starbucks at the Costco Shopping Center in Woodland.

Fans attending the Lakeport Summer Concert Series have more to the St Judes research hospital again this year.  It was another successful year of donations last month at Lakeport’s Library Park.

The Boise fire burning just east of Orleans has reached 84% containment as of Tuesday. That percentage has doubled since last week. A rainstorm helped firefighters make progress in moving  forward. “Our resources were able to outpace the fire procession,” said Steve Rasmussen, a spokesperson for California Interagency Incident Management Team 11. With five acres of interior growth in the past week, the fire was measured at 12,912 acres Tuesday.

California’s water year comes to a close later this month and Gavin Newsom took action yesterday to adapt the state’s response to the historic drought and flooding that Californians have experienced in recent years. With improved water conditions following two wet winters, the governor ended the drought state of emergency in 19 counties while maintaining it in the remaining 39 counties where it continues to support long-term recovery from the three driest years on record.

The Public Health Department of Mendocino County has issued health warnings about toxic mats found in three local rivers: the East Fork of the Russian River, the Navarro River at Philo, and Standish-Hickey State Park Recreation Area. Alerts for Toxic Algae signs have been posted in all three locations to alert the public recommending that all swimmers and waders, particularly children and dogs, should avoid touching any algae material or scum along the riverbanks or in the water. If you see any. They urge people to not touch or ingest or allow your dog to drink from the river. Exposed dogs should be bathed immediately.
