The National Weather Service has a Heat Advisory in effect through 8 PM tomorrow for Lake County and Interior Mendocino County. Highs could reach 105 degrees. The weather should get more seasonable later in the week.

Crews are working on several large fires across the state, including ongoing operations at the PArk fire in Butte and surrounding counties. It’s still at 98 percent contained. The Bear fire north of Lake Tahoe remains uncontained at 2,500 acres with fire conditions going downhill and making that fight more difficult.
Through Labor Day, the Cal Fire Lake/Napa unit says it has handled 285 wildfires totaling 23,000 acres. The Unit says the fire season is far from over–8 of the 10 biggest fires it’s ever responded to occured in August, September, and October.

Two wildfires that kept crews busy in Mendocino COunty are out., The MAsonite fire burned just over 4 acres on Highway 101 Tuesday evening, while the smaller Duchamans fire buried about a quarter acre North of Fort Bragg. No structures were damaged in either fire. CalFire says the fires point out the ongoing risk of fire cropping up at any time.

Monthly solid waste pickups will cost more in Lakeport starting next month. The City council has approved a 13 percent rate increase. That means you’ll pay $19.91 for a 20-gallon container; $29.40 for a 32-gallon container; and $86.48 for a 95-gallon container. The city says the last time rates went up was for a cost of living increase in 2021. Assistant City Manager Nick Walker told the council that the new rates are in line with similar communities. The vote to approve them was unanimous.

The state says employment trends continue to be positive heading into the last quarter of 2024. The Employment Development Department is out with its annual job market briefing and it shows continued job growth with an average monthly growth rate of 18,000 nonfarm jobs. The report also shows the fastest-growing jobs in each of the state’s 15 regions. In the North Bay region, which includes Lake and Mendocino Counties, the hottest job titles include General and operations managers, bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks; home health and personal care aides
