A man from Point Arena has been arrested and charged with Murder. The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office says they got a call from a man identifying himself as Pan Brady just after 8:00 on Thursday night, who told dispatchers he had killed someone after an argument. Deputies responded to Eureka Hill Road where they found the body of the victim who had been shot at least once. Brady was arrested at the scene and booked into the Mendocino County jail on Homicide and gun charges. The dead man is identified as a 56-year-old from Sonoma County. His name is not public until his next of kin can be told.

Cal Fire says the Mina FIre northwest of Covelo is 70% contained. It has burned 98 acres since Monday and one person has died. Dagmar Stankova was last seen at the home on Monday, spraying flames with a fire hose. A body found there could be hers, an autopsy will determine the ID. The house is one of two structures destroyed. Evacuation warnings in the area have been lifted.

The USDA Forest Service is preparing for the risk of fires this weekend. Staff is being beefed up and resources are being put into place in case they’re needed. Officials say they want to be ready to move into a fire zone on a moment’s notice with the forecast calling for hot and dry weather,, with dry lightning possible throughout Sunday and continuing into next week
