The National Weather Service has extended and expanded the Excessive Heat Warning for Mendocino COunty, where high temperatures are forecast to exceed 110 degrees with limited overnight relief with lows near 70. The rest of the county will also endure severe heat conditions, especially inland areas away from the coast. The warning now runs through 9 PM Friday. It is being expanded to include the Round Valley, Sanel Valley, and Long Valley regions. While overnight temperatures are expected to be cooler than last week, daytime temperatures in Hopland, Ukiah, Redwood Valley, Laytonville, and Covelo are not forecasted to drop below 100°F until Sunday. The long-term effects of prolonged exposure to high daytime temperatures can increase the risk of heat exhaustion, dehydration, and other heat-related illnesses. You should also try to reduce exertion, stay in a cool place when possible, and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Mendocino County Public Health is coordinating with the City of Ukiah, the Mendocino County Office of Emergency Services, and the Mendocino County Department of Social Services to monitor the evolution of this Excessive Heat Event and open Cooling Centers as needed. You can find a list of available shelters on the county website.

The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office says it’s identified a woman found in the
ocean near Fort Bragg earlier this year. They say family DNA matched samples taken from the remains of Angela Carrillo-Palomar, of Fort Bragg, who was found in the water on April 26th. Carill-Palomar also fit the description of a woman reported missing earlier that month. It is an ongoing coroner’s investigation so if you have any information, you can contact the MCSO.
