Willits police have arrested a man and charged him with intentionally running over a teenage boy. Witnesses say the 16-year-old was in a group on Holly Street around 11 pm last Thursday when he was hit. Investigators later assisted Luis Archundia Morales of Willits based on witness statements and other evidence. Among the charges against him are vehicular assault and hit and run with injuries. The young victim was seriously hurt and airlifted out, He is in Stable condition. The investigation continues

A man accused of a weekend murder at Lake Berryessa has been booked into jail. Police identified him as Gabriel Chavez, who had been in the hospital with stab wounds since he was arrested. Police say Chavez was involved in a large Saturday night fight that ended with one person shot to death and others–including Chavez were stabbed. He is now being held in the Napa County Jail without bail, as the investigation into what started the brawl at the Oak Shores Day use area continues

The Fort Bragg city council is considering a new budget. City Manager Isaac Whippy says the spending plan is in balance, but barely. Mendo fever.com reports He told the Council it could become more difficult to balance future budgets if revenue trends continue. Whippy expects budgets could incur a deficit in the next few years as costs rise and income drops. He wants the council to build reserves to this budget as a hedge to prevent shortfalls down the road.

A study by Bankrate puts the annual costs of a home–including property taxes, homeowners insurance, maintenance costs, and energy, internet, and cable bills, at $28,790 a year in California. That’s a new record and 32 percent more than just 4 years ago. California ranks second on the list to Hawaii. Homeownership costs the least in Kentucky at $11,559 a year.
