Sonoma-based developer Ken Mattson is the subject of a complaint brought to the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the SEC. The complaint was brought by Mattson’s longtime friend and business partner, Tim LeFever. LeFever is accusing Mattson of bilking he and a group of investors. That’s according to two emails LeFever sent in the past two weeks. The Press Democrat reports LeFever told the investors the IRS is also believed to be looking into the allegations.
The California Highway Patrol has determined the driver of a vehicle was at fault after colliding with a Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit train. The collision happened Sunday morning, near Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport. The CHP says the driver, an 80-year-old man from Cobb, drove into the restricted area and was too close to the train. The driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries and was not cited. No one on the train was injured.
California voters will decide today who will fill former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s congressional seat through the end of the year. The state’s 20th district, GOP-controlled for two decades, has two Republicans vying for the spot in today’s special runoff election. They are State Assemblyman Vince Fong and Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux. Regardless of who wins, both candidates will likely face each other again in November for the full term.
California is paying methamphetamine addicts to kick the habit. A new program pays anywhere from ten to 27 dollars on a sliding scale for successive, clean urine tests. Meth users who stay sober can earn close to 600 dollars a year. 61 million dollars is set aside in the coming fiscal year for the project.
Police are looking for a missing Oregon woman who was last seen in Lake County. According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Ruth Dumitru was last seen Wednesday near North Lakeport. Dumitru is from Portland, Oregon and has a history of mental illness, and can reportedly become confused or disoriented. Officials said they were able to find her vehicle, and her cell phone was inside, but she was nowhere to be found. Investigators say she left Portland on May 5th and was reported missing by her fiancée. Dumitru is 29 years old, 5 foot 4, and about 130 pounds with brown hair and eyes. Anyone with information is asked to call the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
