Supervisors in Lake County will hear about a plan to save the threatened Clear Lake hitch this week. The small fish could be added to the federal endangered species list next year. At a meeting on Tuesday, supervisors will find out what marine biologists say about the hitch and give feedback to develop a conservation strategy. That discussion is one of several agenda items for the board at its regular meeting that starts Tuesday at 9 am at the County Courthouse. An airline that serves Charles Schultz Sonoma County Airport is offering a new program that will help passengers take up a case of wine along for the ride. Avelo Airlines has started its Wine Flies Free program that will let passengers take up to 12 bottles weighing less than 50 pounds to any of the 6 nonstop destinations it serves. Avelo says the region’s vineyards are top tourist attractions and letting people take home wines they may have discovered will help those visitors enjoy their experience after their trip. Alaska Airlines also offers a free ride for bottles of wine from the airport in Santa Rosa as well.
Governor Newsom says Pope Francis is impressed with California’s moratorium on the death penalty. The governor had a brief audience today with the Pope at the Vatican. Newsom says the pontiff brought up the moratorium–which has been one of the governor’s most controversial decisions. The Governor is Catholic and his views are in line with the Church’s teachings.
