The Lake County Board of Supervisors is seeking people who want to serve on a new advisory council. The board has voted to create the Big Valley Advisory Council, which will serve a part of the Kelseyville area and a portion of Lakeport. Lake CO News. com, five members and an alternate will serve two-year staggered terms. The board of supervisors will take applications until March 27th and appoint the members of the council, which will meet for the first time on April 17. The council won’t cover Kelseyville Rivieras because that area already has representations through homeowners associations. Supervisors agreed that naming the council “Big Valley” was more inclusive than just using “Kelseyville”

California’s commercial salmon fishing season could be in trouble again. The Pacific Fishery Management Council is studying several proposals to either shorten–or cancel –the season because of dwindling numbers of fish. The season was canceled last year. The Golden State Salmon Association represents the commercial and recreational industry, restaurants, and other fishing-related businesses, The group says members are bracing for another catastrophic year after losses of at least 45 million dollars in 2023. Some coastal fishermen say another year like last year will put them out of business. The Fisheries Management Council will decide what to do next month. The season traditionally runs from May until October.

Both area members of Congress have voted with the majority on a bill that could potentially banTik-Tok. Congressmen Jared Huffman and Mike Thompson say TikTok poses a national security threat because of its ties to China. Now, it’s up to the US Senate. Senate leaders say they haven’t decided if they’ll bring the question up. Reports say senate offices have been flooded with calls from Tik-Tok users who oppose efforts to shut the service down.
