The paralegal will research court records to find those who may be eligible for a reduced sentence. It’s part of a statewide effort called the Public Defense Pilot Program aimed at reducing prison sentences. The state has been working on reforming the rules of incarceration, resulting in a reduction of about 10,000 years. But at the same time, Governor Newsom says he plans to cut 40 million dollars from the program for the second year in a row. Officials said they are currently reviewing the program.

Reports of someone stranded in the water off the Mendocino Coast turned out to be a false alarm. It happened last night around 7pm when a report came in that said someone wearing an orange floatation device couldn’t make it back to shore. The person was reportedly stuck on a rock off Van Damme State Beach, just south of Fort Bragg. Mendo Fever reported Firefighters, Coast Guard, and state park lifeguards were headed to the area, and an air ambulance had been requested. When the first responders got to the rock, they found a pile of crab pot buoys, but no stranded people. Thankfully, the call was a false report.
