Protesters calling for a ceasefire in Gaza interrupted Representative Adam Schiff’s victory speech. The group disrupted Tuesday night’s speech with chants of “let Gaza live” and “cease fire now.” Schiff got enough votes to advance to the general election for California’s open U.S. Senate seat. The Democrat will face Republican and former baseball player Steve Garvey in November.

The majority of Republican California primary voters say they view the economy as the most important issue when choosing a presidential candidate. That’s according to an NBC News exit poll. Forty-three percent of California Republican primary voters ranked the economy first. Thirty-nine percent ranked immigration as the most important issue, while nine percent of voters picked foreign policy and eight percent went with abortion at the top of their rankings. Meanwhile, 55-percent of California Republican primary voters said the economy is in poor condition.

NBC News projects former President Trump has won the California primary.  He will be awarded the majority of state delegates as he pushes towards securing the GOP presidential nomination.  Trump could clinch the nomination by next week with his strong Super Tuesday showing. On the other side of the aisle, NBC News projects President Biden has won the California primary. The President is expected to clinch the nomination later this month.

The campaign to fill the U.S. Senate seat left empty by the late Dianne Feinstein will go to a November run-off election between Democratic Congressman Adam Schiff and Republican and ex-major league baseball player Steve Garvey.  They were the top two vote-getters on Super Tuesday.  A Republican hasn’t won a Senate race in California since 1988.

The Lake County Registrar of Voters office announced their plans to certify the election results on April 4th. If you live in Lake County and got a Signature Verification Statement or an Unsigned Ballot Envelope Statement, you have until April 2nd to get those back to the Registrar of Voters office. The deadline is 5pm. The office reminds residents that they can’t count a vote that does not have a completed and signed statement returned before the deadline.

One man is dead, and two others were injured after a crash in Clear Lake. It happened on Sunday just before 1pm. Officers responded to the crash on State Route 20 east of Blue Lakes Road.  A Toyota corolla driven by a man from Willits lost control and hit a pickup truck driven by J. Leone of Upper lake. Leone and his passenger were taken to Sutter Lakeside Community Hospital with minor injuries. Mendo Fever reports the driver of the Corolla, and his two dogs, died at the scene. The cause of the crash is still being investigated, officials said they do not suspect alcohol or drugs to be a factor.

A local Ukiah restaurant is being called one of America’s Best. Marino’s Pizza & Ravioli will be highlighted by the national media company America’s Best Restaurants this month. The ABR Roadshow will be in town to highlight popular dishes and interview Marino’s owner. Michelle Marino has owned the place since 1996 when she took over for her parents, who opened Marino’s in 1987. Mendo Fever reports America’s Best Restaurants will be filming on the 15th from 9am to noon, and the episode featuring Marino’s will air later on ABR’s social media channels.

The results have been tallied from yesterday’s primaries in Mendocino County. The official results show Jared Huffman came out ahead for the 2nd Congressional District, getting about 68% of the vote. In a close race for the 2nd Assembly District, the winner was Michael Greer beating Ted Williams by just over 400 votes. The primary winner for Supervisor in the 1st District is Madeline Cline, getting almost 59% of votes. See the full list of primary winners here

The Lakeport Unified School District Board has called a special meeting for today. They’ll be discussing a proposal to cut several positions, both classified and certified. If approved, jobs at risk include everything from the head groundskeeper to the school psychologist. Lake County News reports the board will start the meeting with a closed session to discuss the possible discipline or release of an employee, then they’ll open the meeting to the public. If approved the layoffs could come as soon as the start of the 2024-25 school year. No information has been released about what has led to the recommendations. The meeting begins at 6pm in the boardroom at the district office on Howard Avenue.
