Travis Scott and James Blake are extending their creative partnership with an original song created for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic The Odyssey, adding a new musical element to one of the year’s biggest films. The track, titled “When I’m Home,” plays over the film’s end credits, with Blake handling lead vocals. The song was co-written and produced by Academy Award-winning composer Ludwig Göransson, who also composed the film’s score.
The collaboration reunites Scott with Nolan after the rapper contributed “The Plan” to the director’s 2020 film Tenet. Scott also appears on screen in The Odyssey as a bard, a role Nolan has previously said reflects the oral storytelling tradition through which Homer’s epic was originally passed down. The filmmaker has compared the poetic nature of rap to the work of ancient storytellers, describing the casting as a thematic bridge between classical and modern forms of narration. The end-credits song also marks an unexpected milestone for Nolan. According to reports confirmed by Universal, the director receives his first-ever songwriting credit, sharing writing duties on “When I’m Home” alongside Scott, Blake and Göransson.
Based on Homer’s classic poem, The Odyssey stars Matt Damon as Odysseus and features an ensemble cast that includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Elliot Page and Jon Bernthal. The film is currently playing exclusively in theaters and IMAX formats worldwide.
