A warning about a new scam going around the area. Authorities report that at least one person has fallen for what’s called a courier scam, where callers pretend to be law enforcement, government officials, or attorneys who use high-pressure tactics to try to convince victims to withdraw cash and give it to a courier who arrives at their home. Police in Sonoma County have actually busted one courier arriving to pick up cash from a victim who called police to report the scam. That man claimed to have gotten a message on WhatsApp to drive to the home and pick up cash in exchange for a cut of the money. He is now facing several charges and is in jail without bond.
