Members of a senior citizen’s baseball league in Healdsburg stepped up to the plate after they saw a man fleeing from police who were investigating a reported child sexual abuse case. Officers say the members of the league for men over 72 were in the middle of a game when they helped detain the driver when he crashed near the field. Police say the driver had given the 14-year-old girl alcohol and was trying to have sex with her when officers arrived at the scene near University and Lincoln Streets on Wednesday morning. He sped off, but was arrested after the players helped subdue him. Investigators say while this was not a stranger abduction attempt, they’re still trying to sort out what happened. The girl was taken to the hospital and released to her parents. The suspect faces statutory rape and sex abuse charges
