A new report shows just how destructive invasive pests are to California.  The California Department of Agriculture’s Pest Prevention Program Analysis detailed how hard and costly it is to stop fruit flies and other insects from destroying the state’s agricultural output.  They singled out the shot-hole borer beetle as a multi-billion-dollar problem ripping through trees and threatening California home values.  The report says more money is needed to fight these pressing problems, warning that California’s Pest Prevention System is under increasing threat.  It also calls e-commerce sites that sell plants and soil, including Amazon, eBay, and Etsy, an emerging threat to California’s eco-system since they help import invaders.
