More than 120 students with disabilities across Lake County got a hands-on lesson in safety at a new community event. The “Safety Explorers in Action” program brought them face-to-face with first responders in a way that was interactive and welcoming. Students got to check out equipment, try simulations, and build real connections with the people who serve their communities. Organizers say it helped boost confidence and understanding in a big way. They’re already looking to expand the program with more events down the road.
