A new report is sounding the alarm on the future of California’s coastline. The California Ocean Protection Council says warming oceans and rising sea levels could wipe out much of the state’s sandy beaches by the end of the century. The report also points to damage already happening, from disappearing kelp forests to declining whale populations. There is some progress, with restoration projects and new funding in place, but officials say time is a factor. Bottom line, the coast people know today could look very different in the near future.
