State wildlife officials have announced that the 2026 recreational Pacific halibut season is officially set to kick off this Wednesday, April 1st. According to a press release from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the season will run through November 15th for those fishing north of Point Arena. For those heading further south, the season is scheduled to extend all the way until New Year’s Eve. However, there is a catch: the season could close early if the state reaches its quota. This year’s limit is set at 40,040 pounds, which is roughly the same as last year’s haul. Officials are reminding everyone
to check the latest regulations before heading out to sea. You can find up-to-the-minute updates on the CDFW Pacific halibut web page
