A scam is making the rounds in Mendocino County, and it’s targeting worried families. The Sheriff’s Office says callers are posing as deputies and asking for money to release someone from jail. In one case, a caller demanded $3,200 for an ankle monitor, but it turned out to be completely false. Officials say they will never ask for payment over the phone and want people to report any calls like this.
