Some farmers markets in Lake County are getting a boost from a new state food program. California is investing $23 million to help people using CalFresh, WIC, and senior nutrition programs buy more fresh fruits and vegetables. Locally, North Coast Opportunities received $100,000 to help support programs at eight markets in Lake and Mendocino counties. The program lets shoppers stretch their benefits by getting an extra dollar for produce for every dollar they spend.
