None of the projects expected to open in 2025 under Governor Gavin Newsom’s mental health initiative have opened.  Newsom claimed Proposition 1, a six billion dollar bond approved by voters in 2024, would create thousands of mental health treatment beds.  Many of the first projects have been delayed, some by up to two years, and one has even been cancelled.  California awarded nearly half the funding last spring, with expectations that ten of the first 124 projects to be finished by the end of last year.  Cal Matters reports nine of those projects are now delayed, with completion dates stretching from this summer to summer 2028.
