It looks like a familiar spot in Ukiah is finally heading for the wrecking ball. The city’s Demolition Review Committee has given the green light to tear down the old Perkins Street Bar & Grill building at 228 E. Perkins St The Pinoleville Pomo Nation owns the property now, and they plan to replace the old restaurant—which has been sitting vacant and falling apart for years—with a brand-new medical facility. Since the building was put up back in the mid-60s, it’s officially over 50 years old. In Ukiah, that triggers an automatic “historical check” to make sure the city isn’t accidentally destroying a local treasure. City staff did their homework and looked into its history as “The Lido” and the “Perkins Street Grill,” but they ultimately decided it’s not an architectural gem: It’s just a run-of-the-mill 1960s commercial build.
